2025 KLISC Biennial Workshop: Advancing Library and Information Services: Innovations, Research Excellence and holistic User support

The 2025 KLISC Biennial Workshop, hosted by Kisii University from May 21 to 23, 2025 at the Dallas Premiere Hotel in Kisii town, brought together over one hundred and eighty (180) library and information professionals, publishers, academics, and researchers from Universities, TVETS, Research Institutions and Government Agencies across Kenya. Organized by the Kenya Libraries and Information Services Consortium (KLISC), the event provided a platform for discussion, learning, and collaboration under the theme: “Advancing Library and Information Services: Innovations, Research Excellence, and Holistic User Support.”

Over two days, participants explored a wide range of topics through expert-led sessions and interactive sessions. Key topics included emerging roles of librarians, the integration of artificial intelligence in libraries, the role of information professionals in supporting open science initiatives, and the preparedness of libraries for the implementation of Competency-Based Education (CBE). The workshop also addressed mental health issues, strategies for disaster preparedness, and practical approaches to maximizing access and impact of e-resources.

The event opened with welcoming remarks by Prof. Arnold Mwanzu, Chair of KLISC, followed by remarks from Prof. Nathan Ogechi, Vice Chancellor of Kisii University. A series of sponsor presentations from leading organizations such as Taylor & Francis, Trinka AI, Crossref, EBSCO, Elsevier, Wolters Kluwer, and Research4Life added further depth to the discussions.

A major highlight of the workshop was the focus on funding opportunities for libraries, including guidance on developing fundable research proposals. The agenda also emphasized academia–industry collaboration and strategies to improve research quality in higher learning institutions. Attendees engaged in thought-provoking Q&A sessions, exhibitions, networking events, and a celebratory dinner hosted at the Dallas Premiere Hotel.

In addition to the Biennial workshop and Annual General Meeting (AGM), KLISC will convene its 5th International Conference from November 12 to 14, 2025. Under the theme “Facing the Future Together.” The conference is expected to attract a diverse mix of local and international library and information professionals, fostering deeper dialogue, knowledge exchange.
