Special needs committee

The Special Needs (SN) Committee is a Strategic Management Committee established to provide advice to the KLISC Executive Committee. It is a permanent, standing committee with recommending powers. The committee is a non-executive committee of the KLISC Executive and has no executive powers other than those specifically delegated in these TORs. The Committee shall report to the Executive.

Our Mandate

  •  Develop and sustain the long range Special Needs plans for KLISC
  •  Develop and recommend KLISC administrative policy with relation to Special Needs
  •  Examine the national legal and policy framework regarding access to information by users with special needs and make recommendations
  •  Investigate best practices locally and abroad on response by libraries to information needs of students with special needs and report to the KLISC Executive Committee
  • Carry out a benchmark with institutions/organisations that cater for various special needs so as to have an in-depth understanding of these special needs.
  • Special Needs (SN) CommitteeReview, coordinate and arbitrate major activities on information management innovations across the KLISC members.
  • Conduct a baseline survey on the current status of special needs information facilities, equipment and services in member institutions and make recommendations on appropriate resources for specific special needs requirements.
  • Develop a sensitization plan to member institutions on the need to cater for students with special needs.
  • Identify partners nationally and internationally for benchmarking, capacity building of librarians for member institutions and support and recommend to KLISC Executive to develop MOUs
  • Provide an annual report to KLISC.
  • Any other duty assigned by the KLISC Executive Committee.
