Welcome to the Kenya Libraries and Information Service Consortium!
On behalf of our esteemed Library Consortium, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our digital space. As Chairman, I am truly honored to be a part of an organization that brings together libraries from diverse backgrounds, each with its unique strengths and perspectives. Our consortium is more than an association; it’s a platform where ideas are shared, resources are pooled, and innovation is nurtured.
We invite all Kenyan libraries from academic and non-profit research and learning institutions or agencies hoping to leverage on electronic sources of information for learning to join us as members. We believe that knowledge knows no boundaries, and through resource sharing and pooling we can provide our library users in Kenya with unparalleled access to a wealth of information and resources. As a KLISC member, your institution will have access to a diverse range of e-books, e-journals, digital materials, and specialized databases, all conveniently accessible with just a few clicks and via IP address authentication.
The Kenya Libraries and Information Services Consortium has been able to grow and flourish thanks to each of its strong membership. Living up to our mantra of progress through partnership and creating an informed society, KLISC has consistently provided a bridge to knowledge in the Kenyan teaching, higher learning and research environment. Today, the consortium has about 140 member institutions including Public and Private Universities, TVETs and Colleges, Government agencies/Departments/Ministries, Public Libraries, the National Library and Research Institutions.
Throughout the years the consortium has demonstrated great determination and the ability to innovate – a quality key in forging a community driven library service that our customers deserve. Most members have reported making savings for their parent organizations because of being part of the consortium. For others, the consortium enables them to do more with less – providing access to facilities that they could not afford on their own, expertise, resources and capacity building opportunities for their librarians.
Apart from our internally organized training sessions to enhance and maximize usage of e-resources subscribed by the consortium, KLISC works with international publishers and partners organizing workshops, hosting guest speakers, or introducing new technologies. As you navigate through our website, I encourage you to explore the various libraries within our consortium to appreciate the strength in our collaboration.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our member libraries, the dedicated Governing Board members, Standing Committee members and all stakeholders who have contributed to making this consortium a driving force for positive change. We pay special homage to our previous Executive Committee members in the consortium for their vision and dedication towards a sustainable KLISC. Under the leadership of former Chairperson’s Dr. Salome Mathangani (2003-2007), Dr. Sophia Kaane(2007-2017), Prof. Joseph Kavulya (2017-2022) and Mrs. Janegrace Kinyanjui (2022-2023) they ensured continued collective subscription to electronic resources to cope with the increasing cost of information resources.
Dr. Arnold Mwanzu
Chairman, KLISC
