Kenya Libraries and Information Services Consortium through Special Needs Committee has organized a pilot sensitization on Collaborative Learning and Disability Inclusion in college, university and research libraries in Kenya. The three days workshop will be held at JKUAT NCBD Campus Library located at the JKUAT PLAZA (formerly ICEA Building. Kenyatta Avenue, Nairobi.
The main objective of the workshop is to create awareness on various disabilities, existing instruments (laws, policies and regulations), psychosocial aspects of disability and disability etiquette for ease of implementing disability mainstreaming.
The learning outcomes of the workshop are as follows:
- Gaining deeper understanding of the various types of disabilities
- Understanding how to respond to library users with disabilities needs, considering their information needs, infrastructural facilities and required skills for staff of KLISC members
- Adoption of key best practices for information service provision to university library users with disabilities, considering the capacities and resources of KLISC members
- Sharing experiences and lessons learned for improvement of library systems and facilities
